Physical Characteristics

The Rainbow Lorikeet or Rainbow Lory is one of the most colorful birds, with a vibrant mix of colors including blue, green, orange, red, and yellow. Its calls are distinctive and unique.


The Red-collared Lorikeet, a subspecies of the Rainbow Lorikeet, also possesses beautiful and varied colors. Its body is bright green, with blue stripes rising from the face and nose down to under the eyes and neck. There are yellow stripes on the sides of the neck, and the chest features red or orange feathers. The cheeks are red, and the beak is distinctly orange-red. Its feet are grey.


Diet

They feed on ripe sweet fruits and also consume insects and nectar.

Rainbow Lorikeets have a specialized tongue for extracting nectar from flowers. They are playful and noisy, often preferring to be in pairs or small groups.
